Frequently Asked Questions

Budding architects within the Creative Construction: Towers, Temples and Tectonics strand will delve into the world of structures when a group of investors commissions them to submit a design and model for a new NYSP museum. The students will begin with an exploration of the fundamentals of architecture and the infinite human desire to build and create. Scholars will study well-known buildings and monuments, drawing historical connections from a technical, as well as aesthetic, perspective. Using standard principles of design and engineering, science and art, scholars will devise experiments to test mobiles, columns, domes and bridges of their own construction. Scholars will develop an understanding and appreciation of design concepts that they will then incorporate into a model of the proposed museum. Scholars will return home with a deeper understanding of the wonder and beauty of the world's simple and complex structures.

(This strand is offered to 4th & 5th graders only)
